PRESS RELEASE[/size]
(March 23, 2009): The Embassy
of the Republic of Liberia in Washington, D.C. wishes to announce that
Ambassador M. Nathaniel Barnes and Staff of the Embassy will join
Congressman Donald M. Payne, Sr. (D-N.J.), members of the Congressional
Black Caucus, other dignitaries and friends of Liberia on Wednesday,
March 25, 2009 from 1:30 P. M. – 3:00 P.M. in a solidarity rally on the
Grounds of the U.S. Capitol in support of permanent residency for
Liberians on Deferred Enforcement Departure (DED).
Release:
Did anybody go to the Washington rally for Liberian business? Any first hand reports on how it went?
I had one friend who attended say it was not well advertised and therefore not well attended.
The key to success in rallying resources and forces for a change to permanent status, is in PR and IT.
Public Relations and Information Technologies. This nearly 2 decades old issue needs some serious upgrading and comprehensive media exposure.
America has an extremely visually orientated society. If the issue is not in its face, it is not an issue. President Obama is where he is today because he put it out there in their face every which way all those dollars he raised allowed him too.
Hire some PR people my pepo. Keep the issue hot, live and consistent or it will fade away as the DED recipients fly or sail away in twelve very short months.
Make use of the many Liberian film makers and videographers to put a face and give an empathetic feel to what Liberians feel and are faced with. Put the resources (cash) that need to be procured from all the fashion shows and rallies and queen contests into producers, America, European, African or otherwise that can make people see and hear and feel and understand what the stakes are.
Let the people and the leadership make some noise.
"Gird yourselves with sackcloth And lament, O priests; Wail, O ministers of the altar!" Joel 1:13
Put the information out there.
"My people perish for lack of knowledge." Hosea 4:6
