Grand Kru Senior Senator Cletus Wotorson has been elected the new President Pro-Tempore of the Senate.
The 30-member Senate voted Senator Wotorson who defeated Senator Gbezongar Findley of Grand Bassa County 18 to 11 votes with one spoiled ballot.
The 73-year old trained Geophysicist replaces Senator Isaac Nyenabo of Grand Gedeh County who resigned the post after months of internal wrangling for his removal.
The secretariat of the Senate initially announced the names of four candidates for the post but compromises were made after intense negotiations.
Star Radio gathered Senator Mabotu Nyepan of Sinoe declined reportedly in favor of Wotorson while Bomi County’s Lahai Lasanna gave in for Senator Findley.
Meanwhile, members of the Senate would on next Tuesday elect new heads of the body’s statutory committees who resigned in the wake of the leadership crisis.
