Ellen Warns Against Indecent Exposure...Says Gov't Will Arrest Anyone Caught (Inquirer Newspaper)

The story claims that the president speaking at an interactive forum with a community in grand Cape Mount said this. The action targets 'young women who are in the habit of indecent dressing' and the 'same measure will be taken against the men who are involved in plaiting their hair'.

still confused about this stance which i believe undermines the work done by women rights activists to protect and empower women. which is more harmful to our country...corruption, nepotism, lack of basic social services...or wearing low rise jeans?

putting my mind together to do a response and ask for clarifications...what is happening?

Wow...Is that really true?
What the heck does braided hair and short skirts have to do with increasing or decreasing the severity of the social and economic woes of Liberia? scratch

Da one ain make sense to me. Priorities are the real issue for true. I don't see the use or effectiveness of trying to legislate morality or personal choices in lifestyle.

If social indecency is trully of high priority to the administration...why not be more vigilant on the stripping of the country's cultural identiy with losses like the Kendaja Cultural Center which is being dismantled by Mr. Bob Johnson and replaced with his new 4 star resort.

That is more indecent to me and will have a far more negative effect on the people and culture as a whole.

APA-Monrovia (Liberia) Liberian President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf has declared an all-out war against indecent dressing in post-war Liberia.

Speaking at a public forum in the western provincial town of Sinje in Grand Cape Mount County located about 75 kilometres from the capital Monrovia on Sunday, she said that indecent exposure is against the law and that the government will enforce that law against anyone who will violate it.

“We will have young girls arrested who contravene the ‘dress code of ethics’ and the law will back us for that,” the Liberian leader emphasized.

President Sirleaf, in an angry mood, called on churches, mosques, parents and the ministry of information to take the lead in spreading the awareness.

She said one of the ways of to enforce this is for employers to deny indecently dressed women jobs as a deterrent.

She urged parents to also set the example for their children to follow.

It is a good idea , she will know that other citizens are not in line with that inappropriate decision.
