KOGELO, Kenya – Barack Obama's
Kenyan relatives and Africans across the continent sang, danced in the
streets and wrapped themselves in U.S. flags Wednesday to cheer for
America's first black president. Kenya will party for two days, after
the president declared a national holiday.

Extended family members of Barack Obama react as election results come
in, at the family's homestead in Kogelo village, Kenya. Africans
organized all-night parties to watch the U.S. election results roll in.

Kenyan relatives of Barack Obama celebrate his victory in Nyangoma Kogelo village

November 05, 2008, 07:15
Sarah Kimani
Kenyans have broken out in celebrations and dance following the
declaration of Barak Obama as the first black and the 44th US
president.

Earlier hundreds of Kenyan villagers gathered at Kogole Village,
Obama's ancestral home, to hold a prayer vigil for his success in
today's US polls. Obama's father came from Kogole village. The nearest
major town, Kisumu, is also firmly behind Obama.

Residents said Obama's victory was sure and plans were underway for
victory parties. Barack Obama's step grandmother, Sarah Hussein and
close family members were among those attending the prayer session.
