| Wow!!!   All the way in Kentucky. Soon this morning around 5:30 the ground rumbled and the house shook for bout 20 seconds. Who would have thought! We got another after shock of 4.5 round 11.00. Early Morning Earthquake Measuring 5.2 Rocks Illinois

Chicago, IL (AHN) - An earthquake estimated to measure 5.2 on the Richter scale rocked Illinois Friday morning. So far, there have been no reports of any injuries or damage caused by the tremor.According to the U.S. Geological Survey, the epicenter of the temblor was six miles from West Salem. It shook the area at 4:36 a.m.
The area lies near the New Madrid Fault, the largest center for seismic activity in Illinois, but there was no confirmation if the dawn earthquake originated from the New Madrid Fault.
CBS 2 staff felt the tremor, reporting that its audiovisual equipment shook. The network's crew were preparing for the early news broadcast when the temblor struck. CBS 2 executive producer John Dodge, who was still home that time, said he woke up because of a rattling sound.The earthquake was also felt by Cincinnati and St. Louis residents. |
