|  LET’S KEEP LIBERIA ON THE PATH TO PROSPERITY (A Special Editorial) By: Kai G. WlehThe Liberian President Mrs. Ellen Johnson Sirleaf has made her fourth official visit to the White House at the invitation of U.S. President George Bush. During her latest visit, the Liberian Leader reported progress at all fronts. Mrs. Sirleaf however admitted there are many challenges facing the West African nation. The Bush administration has played a pivotal role in ending the carnage and atrocity in the West Africa nation founded by ex-slaves from the Americas. Since 2003, “the U.S. government has had three overarching priorities in Liberia: to stop the killing, to facilitate the flow of humanitarian aid, and to achieve a comprehensive, profound change in the way the country was governed. “ We have worked long and hard, in cooperation with like-minded Liberians and the international community, in pursuit of these goals,” a U. | While we applaud the UP Led government under the Leadership of Ma Ellen, we will also like to denounce the recent attempt by the Executive branch to give gift to the fourth estate. We think this attempt by the Executive mansion will be seen a suppression of the independence of the fourth estate.
We also encourage the political, social and economic debates that are presently going on in the country as a way of fostering democracy. We give credit to the Ellen Johnson led government for helping to create an enabling environement for said debate to take place as compare to the Taylor regime.
We welcome the setting up of the Anti Corruption Commission (ACC) by the Ellen Johnson Administration and will hope that the independence of the Commission wil be observed and encourage.
