It was founded in 1964 “to promote the liberty of journalists as they practice in the country,” says Mr. Stanton Peabody, the Liberian journalist whose arrest and detention by the government of Liberia (GOL) in 1964 for mocking Liberian legislators as “radicals” created the impetus for establishment of an advocacy body for journalists in Liberia (see Star Radio News, 1 Oct. 2008).
