LOL if I can remember, I don't want to incriminate myself(rude picture).
Places like Norway, Canada, Sweden, Germany, Switzerland, just to name a few poeple can get 3 to 6 weeks vacation. Women get 1 to 3 years maternaty leave with 50% - 100% of their pay. Some of these govts help private businesses pay the salaries of new immigrants to their country, just to promote hiring and work experience. Some places give refugees with the shirt off their backs a roof over their head, FREE healthcare, and money for food(US only gives 3 months of food stamps to refugees and some get housing for 3-5 months depending). Even poor poor Cuba can try to subsidize(sp?) their medicine and food. Some islands down there are good with food also. I remember one island gave all the people free corn meal and milk, and 3 eggs.
Talk about coming with your shirt off your back and getting a head start. Unlike the US these places will not allow children within their borders to go hungry.
I think if Liberia had more caring leadership combined with good people centered economic policy, they could give everyone ONE small bag of rice every month, or some seeds to grow some small veggies |
Illusions exist EVERYWHERE
Canadian children go hungry B DARREN YOURK G lobe and Mail Update Monday, November 04 – Online Edition, Posted at 10:46 AM EST
The Progress of Canada's Children 2002 says that approximately 75,000 families with children underthe age of 12 reported being hungry in 1996 (the last year for which data are available) - an increase ofone-third from 1994.
Despite the economic boom of the mid to late 1990s, too many Canadian families and their children are barely scraping by and are just one problem away from economic disaster," Louise Hanvey, senior researcher at the Canadian Council on Social Development (CCSD) and author of the report, said Monday.

True illusions are everywhere.. Not all of hte countries excel in all categories, but those Scandenavian countries don't have that issue, that I know of.
I know Canada is kind of behind the US when it comes to cost and cheap materials(in some cities) as well, also there are more details to those stories like if the parents are drug addicts, mentally ill, ect things like that. Alot of the native(Indians) have hunger problems in their communities and the governments in both US and Canada have not addressed those issues.
but you also have to consider what is going hungry.. going hungry from one area to the next could mean 2 diffrent things. Some of us in Liberia had to wait till the end of the day or the next day to eat, where as hunger here might mean barely getting 2 small meals everyday.
Also the article was written back in 04, I read they have increased the amount of their national child benefit. That's money that goes to every parent regardless of income, every month. Most of the poverty is in Toronto which is a HUGE city like NY or Chicago and very expensive to live. Poverty has reduced or stablized in other parts of Canada. It's hard for single parent families, even 2 parent families to live in cities like that, even when they do have education. Costs are just way too expensive. |

| No country excels in ALL categories...including America.
I can site articles contending that Socialized healthcare is a flop. http://www.williamgairdner.com/the-failure-of-socialized-medi/ And more that attest to the hunger children in Germany and Switzerland and any country we can name. http://www.wfp.org/english/?ModuleID=137&Key=2862
My point is that there are up and down sides within EVERY Nation. America is no more better or worse. We are all globally facing the same problems.
There are stories in each country of triumph and success and of horror and shame. If we look closer we can shatter EVERYBODY'S illusions.
My only actual experience outside of America is in Africa. And with all the good and the horrific I love Africa. And as for America with all its good and horrific...Me, I lek it oh. |

Makes sense. To each their own. Everyone has a culture they prefer to live in. Over sometime America has left a bad taste in my mouth so i realized it wasn't for me. Like you, I like where I am now alot better with all it's imperfections. I can deal and feel it's condusive for me and how I want to live at this point in time. Funny I was speaking with a Chinese lady here, and by coincidence we used to live in the same state in US a few years back, also met another African girl that came here from the same city I moved from and decided to start out here. She already had family here though. We had the same issues and came here for the same reasons. I guess certain places attact certain kinds of people. |
