| LIB-A New Definition
The acronym for Liberia, LIB was made popular in the early part of 1995 when Liberians youth sought music for comfort during and after the heat of the 14 years civil war. This was not just an ordinary hip pop, R&B or jazz music; these were music originating from the pains, frustrations, hard times, starvation, homelessness, corruptions and force conscription in to the army many young Liberians were experiencing. It is sung in the Liberian tongue that is locally called ‘koloqaw’.
Among the first and organized group producing and singing these music were “LIB RECORD”, this was when the acronym LIB started growing popularity due to the music associated with the group. People could easily say ‘this is LIB music’, meaning a music from “LIB RECORD”.
Later, Liberians in the Diasporas got accustom to the acronym, since it was the short form of calling Liberia, like that of Ghana, which is called ‘GH’ and Nigeria, ‘Niga’
Well, after the 14 years devastating civil war Liberia went through during which million of Liberians were killed, made homeless, displaced and saw a wanton destruction of properties, Liberia is back on the path to making history as she has always done. Today, She has the first female president in the whole of Africa, the largest contingent of United Nations troops serving in Africa, opening a leading steel company by the world largest steel company owned by the world fourth most richest man; Lakshmi Mitt and many many more….
With all that this small African nation has been through, she has waken up from grass to glory, from ashes to sparkles and from darkness to brightness, given us a new definition of LIB…………………………….
