Crayton Retires from National Team Play

Liberiansoccer.com spoke to Luis Crayton about his absence from the National team. This was a candid conversation that everything was on the record. The former Lone Star Goal keeper wanted to clear the air about his absence from the national team.

Crayton who is the stopper for FC Basel , the Swiss league double champions is in form and is far from finished as a Professional Player. Reports that he had a vision problem are erroneous and not true.

Crayton informed the Lonestarsoccer.com that he is retired from national team play. He made this decision after consulting with his family and praying about it.

The catalyst for this steam from the statements made by Dep. Min. of Sports Marbue Richards and the LFA head for Operations Adolf Lawrence. Crayton stated that the Min Richards called him a “ Virus “ and that he needs to get rid of him because he is the case of the National team failures.

Crayton also said that he (Crayton) was informed of remarks made by the Min Richards while he was watching a UEFA match that involved Crayton’s team, FC Basel. Crayton team conceded 3 goals. Crayton was appalled that the Min did not provide support but mostly criticism. He was concerned that his playing in UFEA as a Liberian international should have been viewed as a positive but Min Richards looked it this as a negative and rained insults at Crayton’s performance.

The former player also stated that it was time to move on and give Melvin King a chance. He said that King had all the qualities to be a great Keeper. “Melvin is quick, he has good reflexes and is a vocal “Crayton stated. “Melvin is brave and has obtained experience from the test matches he recently played “Crayton further stated.

When asked if this was an endorsement of Melvin King for the Lone Star keepers post. Crayton answered “yes, we need to start grooming the younger players, at some point we (The older Lone Star players) need to move on and give the younger players a chance. “ He also said “We need players that play the position, not strikers that want to be keepers or defenders that want to be strikers. Melvin has been playing and practicing in Goal for a long time so he deserves the chance”

Concluding the conversation Crayton stated that he supports the new Coach Antoine Hey and the players on the team. He has spoken to Coach Hey himself and looks at his appointment as Lone star head coach as a positive development for Liberian soccer.
