| DC United Signs Liberian International Goalkeeper

Louis Crayton arrives with hopes of solving the goalkeeping worries in Washington.
Since the off-season departure of Troy Perkins, goalkeeper has been a tricky position at RFK Stadium. Zach Wells was brought in from Houston and assumed the number one.
Jose Carvallho arrived from Peru. But reinforcements are on the way. According to reports out of Switzerland and Washington, D.C. United have signed netminder Louis Crayton.
The 6-foot-tall Crayton will challenge for the number one spot with Zach Wells, a longtime backup in Houston who was brought to the capital city in the off season. He has had problems all season and does not evoke much confidence in United fans or defenders, as the side have struggled to get back into the running in the Eastern Conference after an abysmal start to the season. They currently sit in 4th place.
Liberian-born, Crayton holds both Liberian and Swiss passports. At 30, he is well-traveled in his 13-year pro career. He has spent 11 years in Switzerland, including time Grasshoppers, Concordia Basel, and most recently FC Basel. In the last three years with Basel, he has made only 12 appearances.
He has been capped 35 times for Liberia, and made two appearances during qualification for the 2006 World Cup. |
