VACANCY ANNOUNCEMENT

PRESIDENT

The University of Liberia, Liberia’s national university, is accepting application for the position of President of the institution.

The University seeks a dynamic, energetic and visionary leader in higher education with high professional standards and integrity and a demonstrated commitment to work with faculty, students, staff and the Board of Trustees to promote the growth and development of the University at this critical period of its history.

The President will serve as the Chief Executive Officer of the University and work closely with the Board of Trustees to provide overall leadership and direction to the planning and management of the teaching, research and service functions of the University and to ensure that significant improvements are made in the implementation of the Strategic Plan of the University of Liberia.

Founded in 1862 as Liberia College, the institution became the University of Liberia in 1951 by an Act of the National Legislature. It is Liberia’s National University and the President of the Republic of Liberia is the Visitor of the University of Liberia.

The University provides a broad range of programs within its six (6) undergraduate colleges, three (3) professional schools and four (4) graduate programs located on three campuses. Plans are underway to add two more graduate programs.

With a faculty of approximately 400 and as the nation’s highest public education institution, the University serves more than 17,000 students drawn from all parts of the country as well as foreign students with diverse background and educational preparation.

QUALIFICATIONS

The next President of the University of Liberia should demonstrate broad leadership qualities and experience, including:

• At least 5-10 years of proven leadership and management experience in a senior position in higher education and /or industry;
• An earned doctorate degree preferred;
• A strong commitment to academic quality and excellence in teaching, research and service;
• Knowledge of and sensitivity to the unique needs of higher education in Liberia;
• High ethical standards and professional integrity;
• A demonstrated ability to establishing clear goals and leading an effective academic and administrative team;
• Exemplary skills and ability to communicate the mission and needs to the various constituencies of the University, including the students, faculty, staff, alumni and collaborating partners;
• An enduring ability of good listening and being at ease in dealing with students, faculty and administrative staff and to creating an inclusive environment characterized by collegiality, shared responsibility and collective responsibility;
• High commitment to fundraising and advocating for increasing support from Government and other sources including concessions, corporations, foundations and other major donors and enlarging the Endowment Fund of the University;
• Building and maintaining productive linkages with institutions of higher learning and education support organizations at home and abroad;
• Demonstrated commitment to academic freedom and shared governance;
• An appreciation and understanding of the dynamics and nuances of Liberian culture including the political culture and its effects on the University.

Sawyer does not care for the University oh. When he was IGNU's President, he didn't support the University for reason best known to himself...He betrayed the Univeristy student...
